I am looking to purchase a 25 HP tractor for the purposes of finish mowing 5 acres flat land. In the future I will also be looking into purchasing implements for snow removal, gardening, driveway grading, ect. I have been researching the Big 3 for a few months. The best 'deal' that I have been offered is the following:JD 4200 4WD HST: Power steering, Turf Tires, Replaced front Axle, ect..This model has 100 Hours of use in 10 months. Remainder of the factory warrent of 14 months. It also comes with a new 72" rear discharge bush hog brand finish rear PTo mower. After much dickering I have gotten the dealer down to $15700.00 out the door for this package. This price includes 6.25% tax.My questions are the following:1. Should I be able to get a better deal on this tractor?2. Would I be able to get the same setup from NH or Kubota for equal or less money? I'd be looking at a TC25 or B2710.Thanks in advance,Roger

Roger, I don't really know about the prices, but you made no mention of a front end loader, which is generally the most useful implement of all, and the most expensive. Do you know how the dealer is breaking it down? $1,700 for the mower and $14,000 for the tractor? Doesn't sound to me like a particularly bad deal, but not anything I'd consider particularly good either. ....

Roger,The 4200 4wd new with power steering, Hydro, and R1 tires list new for $14,000 .Does this tractor have any other options such as SCV valve, Mid pto, loader, rear light kit? I'm not sure what the current prices are for the bush hog . It's been a while since I bought mine( 23 YEARS!)I'm attaching a sight that I use as a guide to pricing new J D units these are J D's list prices and this dealer will do much better. Good luck!

JIM

Roger, as far as I can tell Jim didn't attach the site, but the link below will take you to a dealer's site that has representative prices. It is possible to get better prices than Lawn & Leisure has on their site, but these are pretty fair. For a used tractor you should be looking at somewhat less. As Bird implied $1700 is fair value for the 6' mower. ....
